Dallas completes first furlough day; two September dates remain

Dallas closed all public library branches and many city offices for its first furlough day. Two more furlough dates are scheduled in September.

Published 1 minute read

Dallas held the first of three scheduled city furlough days on July 10, closing every Dallas Public Library branch and many city offices.

The two remaining furlough days are scheduled for Sept. 4 and Sept. 28, according to the City of Dallas department and facility schedule.

What remained open

Emergency services, water, sanitation and city airports continued operating during the July 10 furlough day. The city notice provides the schedule for affected departments and facilities, allowing residents to check which services are available on each furlough date.

The Dallas Public Library separately announced that all of its locations would close July 10. The approved notices establish that closure for the first furlough day but do not provide branch-by-branch plans for the two dates still ahead.

Residents who need in-person help from a city office or library should keep the remaining Sept. 4 and Sept. 28 furlough dates in mind. Essential operations identified by the city—including emergency services, water, sanitation and airports—remained in service during the first closure.
