A fisherman participating in a local tournament was reportedly rescued from Lake Tawakoni on Saturday morning after being thrown from a boat and spending more than three hours in the water.
Multiple agencies reportedly took part in the search. Published reporting did not establish what caused the fisherman to be thrown from the boat or whether he was wearing a life jacket.
What boaters can check before launching
Texas Game Wardens recommend wearing a properly fitted life jacket, designating a sober operator, monitoring changing weather and completing boater education. Those are general precautions; available information does not establish whether any of them affected this rescue.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s boating portal provides official links for required vessel safety equipment, life jackets, boating-accident information and boater education. TPWD also outlines its current recommendations in a summer boating-safety statement.
