A mother and her two daughters were reportedly killed after a tractor-trailer struck their disabled car from behind on eastbound U.S. 80 in Kaufman County late Sunday.
Texas Department of Public Safety troopers reportedly responded at about 11:35 p.m. to the crash east of Windmill Farms Boulevard.
The disabled 2013 Hyundai had stopped in the right eastbound lane when the tractor-trailer hit it and pushed it over the bridge’s concrete railing, according to published reporting that attributed the account to DPS.
Va’Necia Williams, 38, and her daughters Sa’Niah Davis, 14, and A’veonia Davis, 9, were reportedly pronounced dead at the scene. The tractor-trailer driver was reportedly uninjured.
The investigation remained ongoing July 27.
What DPS recommends for a disabled vehicle
A DPS spokesperson advised drivers to activate their hazard lights, leave the roadway if possible and move everyone in the vehicle out of traffic.
Documented road projects in the area
A TxDOT construction record from the fourth quarter of 2025 listed a U.S. 80 hazard-elimination and safety project from Buffalo Creek Relief to FM 548. It also listed a separate FM 548 reconstruction project from Windmill Farms to U.S. 80.
The record does not establish that either project or the roadway’s design contributed to the crash.
