Texans can attend two state Senate hearings this week or join online advocacy events focused on data-center taxes, electric-grid connections and transmission costs. The July 26-30 Data Center Week of Action is organized by advocacy groups, and its event page says the activities are open to Texans.
The schedule provides several ways for Denton and other DFW residents to participate, but DFW participation in any particular action has not been confirmed.
Monday, July 27: Data-center tax exemptions
The Texas Senate Finance Committee is scheduled to meet at 10:30 a.m. in Capitol Extension room E1.036. The agenda includes data-center sales-tax exemptions and their effects on state finances.

Tuesday, July 28: Outreach and online briefing

Wednesday, July 29: Grid connections and transmission costs
The Texas Senate Business and Commerce Committee is scheduled to meet at 9 a.m. in Capitol Extension room E1.012. Its agenda includes rules for connecting large electricity users to the grid and deciding how transmission costs are allocated.
That hearing also accepts public testimony. Prospective participants should check the official Business and Commerce Committee notice for testimony instructions. Organizers also scheduled an evening webinar.
Thursday, July 30: Local resolutions and permit training
The final day includes a campaign centered on local resolutions and an online training session about permits. Participation details are available through the organizers’ event page.
Why this matters in Denton
Published reporting indicates that Denton groups formed a working group opposing data centers. Mayor Pro Tem Nick Stevens reportedly said the City Council would discuss a possible moratorium sometime in August.
