Two reported UIL appeal losses leave quarterbacks Colton Nussmeier and John Meredith III ineligible for varsity play at their destination schools, while each reportedly remains eligible at his former school.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that the UIL State Executive Committee denied Nussmeier’s appeal by a 4-1 vote. A USA Today report carried by Yahoo Sports also reports the 4-1 result.
That decision leaves Nussmeier ineligible for varsity play at Denton Ryan, according to the reports. The Star-Telegram reports that he remains eligible at Flower Mound Marcus, his former school.
How Meredith’s result compares
USA Today reports that Meredith’s appeal was denied 3-2. He is therefore reportedly ineligible at North Crowley but remains eligible at Euless Trinity, his former school.
The votes differed—4-1 for Nussmeier and 3-2 for Meredith—but the reported practical result is parallel: each is barred at his destination school and retains an option at his former school.
The Star-Telegram also reports that Nussmeier’s family discussed seeking judicial review. The report said no lawsuit had been filed, so that discussion should not be treated as pending court action.
