The Watermelon Dash Dallas is scheduled for Aug. 23 at Bachman Lake Park, with heat precautions tested at a July race expected to return.
Time, place and registration cost
The event listing gives the location as Bachman Lake Park, 3500 W. Northwest Highway in Dallas. The 5K and 10K are scheduled to start at 7 a.m., followed by the kids and family 1K at 8:30 a.m.
Registration before Aug. 9 is listed at $50 plus a fee for the 5K, $60 plus a fee for the 10K and $25 plus a fee for the kids and family race.
Heat measures runners can expect
Published reporting indicates that the July Popsicle Dash added electrolytes, extra water stops and an earlier start. Dallas Fire-Rescue monitored runners by bicycle and ATV.
An organizer said runners could expect those precautions again for the Aug. 23 Watermelon Dash. The safeguards are expected rather than final: any weather-dependent race-day changes have not been announced.
