Mansfield Animal Care & Control will close July 29 through Aug. 2 while staff move animals and equipment to the new shelter. Adoptions, owner surrenders and other in-person services will be unavailable during the closure.
The city says the new Mansfield Animal Shelter will begin serving the public Aug. 3. Mansfield’s Clear the Shelters campaign will also run throughout August with adoption specials.
Grand-opening schedule
A free grand-opening celebration is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 8 at 612 S. Wisteria St. The city’s event schedule lists a ribbon cutting from 10 to 10:30 a.m., followed by guided tours each hour from 11 a.m. through 2 p.m.
Parking and shuttle details
Shelter parking will be limited. A complimentary shuttle will leave from the Mansfield Activities Center beginning at 10 a.m., and the final return shuttle will depart the shelter at 2:30 p.m.
Additional parking is listed at 1300 Fort Worth St. and 607 S. Wisteria St.
What the replacement shelter was designed to include
An October 2024 city project publication said the shelter was designed with 130 dog living areas, 135 cat kennels, medical and recovery kennels, community-education spaces and an adopter play yard.
Also on Mansfield’s family calendar, the public library has a free therapy-dog reading session scheduled July 30.
