Ashley Keith is speaking publicly about surviving an abduction in Plano in 1991, when she was eight years old. Published reporting indicates Nicholas Carney has been found guilty in the 1991 kidnapping case.
That conviction is important to the case’s current status: the person prosecuted in the abduction is no longer unidentified, even as police continue seeking information about possible additional criminal activity.
How investigators connected the cases
A Plano Police Department bulletin says DNA connected the 1991 Plano investigation to a 1999 Dallas child-abduction case. Police said Carney was arrested in connection with both investigations.
Published reporting indicates investigators used genetic genealogy to identify Carney, then obtained DNA from discarded cigarette butts and drink containers.
