NBC 5: Five Fort Worth council members seek data-center moratorium

NBC 5 reports that five Fort Worth council members want a temporary data-center moratorium. City staff instead recommends permanent policy changes.

Published 1 minute read

Five Fort Worth City Council members intend to pursue a temporary moratorium on new data-center development, according to NBC 5 DFW.

The outlet identified the members as Carlos Flores, Mia Hall, Chris Nettles, Elizabeth Beck and Jeanette Martinez.

City staff favors permanent regulations

City staff is not recommending a moratorium. The city’s data-center information page says procedures required under state law would delay the adoption of permanent regulations if the council pursued a temporary pause.

Instead, Fort Worth has scheduled City Council consideration of proposed changes covering data-center zoning, noise, utilities and economic-development policy for Aug. 11, 2026.

The two approaches set up a clear policy choice: five members reportedly want a temporary halt on new data-center development, while city staff is advancing permanent changes for council consideration in August.

The approved reporting establishes the five members’ stated intention to pursue a moratorium. The city confirms the Aug. 11 meeting date, the subjects covered by the proposed policy changes and staff’s position against a moratorium. It does not establish that the council has adopted either approach.
