A National Weather Service heat advisory covers parts of North Texas from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 26, with heat-index values as high as 109 degrees.
The advisory covers Dallas, Tarrant, Denton, Collin, Ellis, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker and Rockwall counties, along with other North Texas counties.
Air temperatures versus the heat index
Sunday’s forecast separates the air temperature from how it may feel: highs of 97 to 103 degrees, with the advisory warning of a heat index as high as 109.
The NWS Fort Worth forecast says triple-digit temperatures will be common during the week, with afternoon heat-index values ranging from 100 to 115 degrees.
Adjusting Sunday outdoor plans
The advisory warns of increased heat-illness risk, particularly for people working or participating in outdoor activities.
NWS advises moving strenuous outdoor activity to early morning or evening and taking frequent breaks in shade or air conditioning.
