Work is underway to widen FM 549 between SH 276 and SH 205 in Rockwall County, with completion anticipated on Jan. 31, 2029.

According to the county’s construction notice, alternating northbound and southbound lanes between SH 276 and FM 1139 are scheduled to close on weekdays. Other lanes will remain open, but motorists should expect delays.

Project scope and older estimates

A 2021 state registration describes the project as widening a two-lane rural road into a four-lane urban section. That record listed an estimated cost of $22,047,646.

The same registration projected completion on Aug. 1, 2028. The county’s current anticipated completion date is Jan. 31, 2029, replacing that older schedule estimate.

Elsewhere in Rockwall County, a Crenshaw Road closure in Royse City is tied to a separate widening project.
